Session of Political Affairs Committee of Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie in Yerevan Begins

On March 20, the Session of the Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie began in Yerevan.

The RA NA President Ara Babloyan, the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian, 41 delegates representing about twenty-three member countries of the International Organisation of La Francophonie and the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie.

Welcoming the participants of the Session, the Chairman of the Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie Christophe-André Frassa thanked the Armenian side, and then presented the speakers.

The RA NA President Ara Babloyan welcomed the representatives of Francophone countries in the RA National Assembly and delivered a speech. See the speech of the Head of the parliament here.

Afterwards the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Ministers' Committee of the International Organisation of La Francophonie delivered a speech.

By Christophe-André Frassa’s proposal after the adoption of the agenda during the round table-debate the delegates presented the political news of their countries.

The RA NA deputy, the Head of the RA NA delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie Margarit Yesayan presented the last developments in Armenia to the colleagues. The RA NA deputy touched upon The RA NA deputy referred to the transition from the semi-presidential system of government to the parliamentary one, noting that on March 2 of this year the RA National Assembly elected a President of the country. In the word of the Head of the delegation the parliament with the new authorities will elect the President of the RA Constitutional Court, and Armenia will turn into full parliamentary government from April 9 of this year.

The delegates of Francophone countries adopted the report of the meeting of Luxembourg of 9 July 2017 and the statement on the decisions, and afterwards discuss the items included in the agenda on the political situations in Francophone countries, G5 Sahel Union Joint Forces and Sahel Ally, fighting against religious extremism and the UN peacekeeping mission.

The Session of the Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie will begin on March 21.
